SQ is a loyal employee who brings a positive attitude and is always on time and willing to help out. Recently, however the office manager found SQ’s work quantity did not equal those of other staff. The office manager reviewed SQ’s computer work log and realized that SQ wasted a tremendous amount of time clicking between work assignments, returning frequently to the same task two or three times before completing it. SQ works in several areas, which is appropriate but leads to fragmentation of the workday and a great deal of inefficiency. The office manager spent time mentoring SQ to compartmentalize the work so that certain portions of the day were spent on certain tasks, decreasing interruptions. These changes improved SQ’s overall work output, increased job satisfaction, and decreased overtime for the practice.
Diagnosis:
Inefficient workday
