RS and AC work in a solo practitioner’s office. RS has been with the practice for several years and AC is relatively new. They are hard workers and play important positive roles for the practice. They spend their lunch break at their workstations surfing the internet and often updating their social media accounts or watching funny videos. It did not appear that this activity caused a problem with their work because it only occurred during breaks. However, when the practice’s information technology (IT) service reviewed the office computer system, they discovered additional programs and small viruses on the office network that entered through RS and AC’s computers. These additional programs and viruses slowed down productivity for the entire system by reducing the office’s network speed. These additional programs and viruses increased the risk of a more serious cyberattack on the office’s computer system.
